Five grandchildren, Justin Shafer (Lisa), Ashleigh Kanski (Kyle), Alyssa Streitmarter (Michael), Madison Niehaus, Tyler Niehaus Eleven great-grandchildren, Lilly, Carolyn, Jack, Evelyn, Vivian, Nick, Madelyn, Maria, Macey, Sophie, Emmy and brother, Thomas Lorenze and sister, Sara DeStout (Paul). ![]() She is survived by her four children, Karen Shafer (Douglas), Cincinnati, OH Alan Niehaus (Melanie), Long Island, NY Pam Niehaus, Robinson Twp. ![]() She also loved playing bridge, tending to her plants and was a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, including her grandchildren and great grandchildren, along with her faithful and constant companion Toby and a loving rescue cat Callie. She helped to inspire, coach many young girls in the game, while juggling a busy family and job. Madelyn connected with several other mothers in Moon and created a softball league for girls called “The Moon Lassie League”. In the late 1960’s Madelyn and her new family moved to Moon Township where she saw limited opportunities for young girls to play sports. Madelyn graduated from Elizabeth Seton High School located in South Hills in 1955.
